A regatta is a series of boat races. These are the team competitions we participate in every year.
Competition & Regattas
Justice Rowing competes primarily in local VASRA regattas on the Occoquan Reservoir from mid-March to mid-May, concluding with the Virginia State Championship Regatta. Qualified boats may also travel to larger post-season regattas such as Stotesbury or the SSRA National Championships. Not all rowers will race at every event, particularly early in the season. Lineups are determined by attendance, effort, technical development, and team needs.
Regatta Logistics & Transportation
- Rowers are responsible for their own transportation to VASRA regattas.
- Report times may be as early as 5:30 AM, depending on race schedules.
- Draft race schedules are typically available a few days before each regatta and are posted on the VASRA website, as well as heat results.
- Athletes who drive may park for free in the designated athlete parking lot (about a 15 minute walk to the boathouse).
- Parents driving must drop off athletes at the Sandy Run entrance, park in the off-site lot, and take a shuttle bus to the venue, costing $10 cash one-way.
Equipment
All equipment including boats, oars, and shoes are provided by the program. Athletes are taught how to properly care for and maintain all equipment during work days and practices.
Uniforms
Rowers will receive a uniform, consisting of either a tank and shorts or a “uni” (one-piece) and a long-sleeve racing top. Uniforms are required for regattas. Uniforms are to be laundered and returned as property of the club following the end of the racing season. All athletes will receive a practice T-shirt as part of their dues and it is theirs to keep.
